Heliograf

This page is under construction... (opened for public at 2023-11-11 ...)

Heliography is among else "the scientific study of the sun"... (It has also been the first predecessor of Photography 200 years ago...)

Heliograf.org is another Virtual Solar Observatory... The purpose of this web-site is to give scientists and general public a simple tool to observe Solar ultra-violet clouds and other phenomena (while other partially related channels are planned soon)...

(Not to be confused with virtualsolar.org, which is probably for another class of users...)

I'm not sure now, what should be here on the front page...? (planned is to have here a grid preview of all available channels...)

At this moment, you can use channel buttons at top of this page to open Solar image channels...

Blog will list text articles, when there will be some...

A "Channel" here means a sequence of images, which are being updated with new images, as they are available - with some delay at the source and some delay due to processing periods...

Images are available here in 1K resolution (1024 pixels) or 512 pixel small previews, which are loading faster... To switch 1024 (detailed) and 512 (faster) pixel images use buttons at top right corner of the image... (Images in 2K resolution are available on request...)
To download images from Heliograf, use links 1024px or 512px at right side below the image, because right-clicking image in order to save it does not work... It is usually also possible to download all daily images in ZIP format, and there is some API for automated downloads, to be described later...

Currently these "Channels" are available here (while other are being prepared) :

todo: image links for channels...

  • Pm - Planckian Mapping, combined from channels 171,211,304 of NASA/SDO
  • CH - CoroHole, combined from channels 193 and 171 of NASA/SDO
  • PmCh2 - Pm combined with CH, a four-color composite for observing EUV clouds
  • HCw - channel 193 in high-contrast, white background to observe darker features of Solar clouds, visible best in channel 193...
  • HMII - HMI Intensitygrams - Sun in visible light, from NASA/SDO...
